The Pre Sea training course “syllabus” is designed to give Catering Ratings a basic educational orientation

GENERAL PURPOSE (G.P) RATING- COURSE APPROVED BY D.G SHIPPING
The Pre Sea training course “syllabus” is designed to give Catering Ratings a basic educational orientation course of four weeks followed by twenty one weeks of training in cookery and service of food etc. They also get familiarisation with equipment and utensils, their care, maintenance, and safety precautions. Course Aims and objectives of cooking, classification and selection of raw materials, and preparation of ingredients. Eventually these candidates after obtaining cookery certificate sail as Chief Cook onboard merchant ships.

Join as O.S on Deck Department or Wiper in Engine Department (Salary USD 600 to 1000 P.M) (27-36 Months of Sea time)
Get promoted to A.B on Deck Department or Oiler in Engine Department (Salary USD 1100 – 1500 P.M)
Further you can also get promoted to Bosun in Deck Department (Salary USD 1600-2000 P.M)
Classroom Programs offered by Officers Wing
Subjects covered: Maths, Science, General Aptitude, English, General Knowledge, Marine Knowledge, Personality development.
Selection Criteria:
1. Filling up enquiry form
2. Counseling Session
3. Written Test
4. Medical Test
5. Final formalities like Documentation and
Fee submission.
Duration: 90 hours

Eligibility Criteria
10th pass with minimum 40% in Maths and Science.
Minimum 40% marks in English at 10+2 or 10th level is a must.
Not exceeding 25 years on the date of commencement of training. (5 Years relaxation for SC/ST candidates)
Medical fitness: Eyesight 6/6 with no color blindness and medically fit as per Directorate general of shipping.
Selection Procedure
Qualify written and interview test conducted by Institute.
Clear Medical examination by D.G shipping approved Doctor.
AFTER SELECTION COURSE
Pre Sea Training of 6 Months (Awarded certificate of pre sea training approved by D.G Shipping).
On board Training of 9 months (Trainee seaman will get stipend of USD 200-400 Per Month while training on board)
Awarded watch keeping certificate for Engine or Deck from DG Shipping on successful completion of required courses and exams.
Commencement of Course
In month of January & July every Year.
Sponsorship Requirement
This course is generally non sponsored and various shipping companies come in the campus of the institute for recruiting Trainee seaman. It’s good to see the previous campus records of the institute which gives a fair idea that which all companies come to the campus for selection. Placements and onboard training is generally provided by the institutes after charging the onboard training fees.
