DECK CADET
DECK CADET/ TRAINEE NAVIGATING OFFICER COURSES
Deck Cadets are the trainee navigating officers who undergoes and extensive training program which is generally designed in 3 phases (Pre-sea, On Sea & Post Sea training). They are trained to become deck officers on board merchant ships to take care of navigation, deck operations, maintenance, cargo operations & communications onboard ship. Eventually a deck cadet becomes the Captain of ship and command the vessel.
Career Graph After Getting 2nd Mate License
Join as 3rd Officer and get promoted to 2nd Officer. (Salary USD 2000 to 5000 P.M) (18 Months of sea time)
Undergo post sea training for Chief Mate and qualify written and oral examination conducted by D.G shipping or equivalent body and obtain Chief Mate Licence.
Join as Chief Officer as per company recommendation. (Salary USD 6,500 to 9,000 P.M) (18 Months of Sea time)
Undergo post sea training for Master and qualify written and oral examination conducted by D.G shipping or equivalent body and obtain Master Licence.
Join as Captain as per company recommendation. (Salary USD 9,000 to 15,000 P.M)
Classroom Programs offered by Officers Wing
Subjects covered: Maths, Science, General Aptitude, English, General Knowledge, Marine Knowledge, Personality development.
Selection Criteria:

OPTION-1
DNS LEADING TO B.SC IN NAUTICAL SCIENCE (APPROVED BY IMU AND D.G SHIPPING)
Eligibility Criteria
10+2 passed with 60% aggregate marks in PCM or B.Sc or B.E/ B.Tech with 60% marks or Diploma Science with 60% marks.
Minimum 50% marks in English at 10+2 or 10th level is a must.
Must be fluent in written and spoken English.
Age not exceeding 25 years on the date of commencement of training. (5 Years relaxation for SC/ST candidates).
Medical fitness: Eyesight 6/6 with no color blindness and medically fit as per Directorate general of shipping.
Selection Procedure
Qualify IMU – CET online test(June every year).200 Questions on PCM, English, G.K & Reasoning.
Qualify sponsorship test (Written, Personal interview & Psychometric) of Shipping Company.
Clear Medical examination by D.G shipping approved Doctor.
AFTER SELECTION COURSE
Pre Sea Training of 1 year (Awarded Diploma Nautical Science on successful completion).
On board Training of 18 months in 2 (9 Months each) or 3 phases (6 Months each).Cadets will get stipend of USD 250-500 Per Month while training on board)
Post sea training of 6 months. (Awarded COC/Licence from DG Shipping as 2nd Officer on successful completion of exams & B.Sc Nautical Science from IMU on successful completion).
Commencement of Course
In month of August/ February every Year.
Sponsorship Requirement
This is fully sponsored course for the onboard training.
OPTION-2
B.SC IN NAUTICAL SCIENCE (AFFILIATED BY IMU OR APPROVED BY D.G SHIPPING)
Eligibility Criteria
10+2 pass with 60% aggregate marks in PCM.
Minimum 50% marks in English at 10 + 2 or 10th level is a must.
Must be fluent in written and spoken English.
Age not exceeding 25 years on the date of commencement of training. (5 Years relaxation for SC/ST candidates).
Medical fitness: Eyesight 6/6 with no color blindness and medically fit as per Directorate general of shipping.
Selection Procedure
Qualify IMU – CET ( June every year).200 Questions on PCM, English, G.K & Reasoning.
Attend Counselling and choose the institute.
Clear Medical examination by D.G shipping approved Doctor.
AFTER SELECTION COURSE
Pre Sea Training of 3 years (Awarded B.Sc Nautical Science on successful completion).
On board Training of 12 months ( Cadets will get stipend of USD 250-500 Per Month while training on board)
Post sea training of 2 months. (Awarded COC/Licence from DG Shipping as 2nd Officer on successful completion of exams).
Commencement of Course
In month of August every year.
Sponsorship Requirement
This course is generally non sponsored and various shipping companies come in the campus of the institute for recruiting Deck Cadets. This is the reason why this course is not very popular in comparison to DNS course. It’s very important to check the previous campus placement records of the institute which gives a fair idea that which all companies come to the campus for selection.
OPTION-3
DECK CADET COURSE (DIP HE) APPROVED BY LJMU & MCA UK
The Diploma of Higher Education in Nautical Science (including preparation for STCW OOW Certificate) provides a pathway to academic qualification and with further study in the UK, is a Maritime & Coastguard Agency (MCA) approved route to a Merchant Navy Deck Officer of the Watch (OOW) Certificate. The Dip HE is awarded by Liverpool John Moores University (UK) who provides assessments.
Eligibility Criteria
Minimum 55% in 10+2 in PCM or PCB, B.Sc Graduates and any engineering graduates may apply with 60% or 55% marks in the final year of B.Sc. with physics in any of the years of B.Sc. or B.E. / B.Tech. degree.
Must be fluent in written and spoken English
Age not exceeding 27 years on the date of commencement of training.
Medical fitness: Eyesight 6/6 with no color blindness and medically fit as per Directorate general of shipping.
Selection Procedure
Qualify written and interview test conducted by SAMET.
Should hold English qualification and should score IELTS 5.5 score.
Clear Medical examination by D.G shipping approved Doctor as per ILO standard.
AFTER SELECTION COURSE
Pre Sea Training of 7 Months (Awarded certificate of HE Nautical Science on successful completion).
On board Training of 12 months ( Cadets will get stipend of USD 200-300 Per Month while training onboard)
Post sea training of 10 months. (Awarded COC/Licence from UK MCA as 2nd Officer on successful completion of exams & Diploma HE in Nautical Science from LJMU on successful completion).
Commencement of Course
In month of July /Jan every Year.Sponsorship Requirement

B.TECH. MECHANICAL ENGINEERING

B.TECH MECHANICAL ENGINEERING
GRADUATE MARINE ENGINEERING
The Graduate Marine Engineering programme is designed for the mechanical engineers who can join shipping as marine engineers after completion of this 1 year course. The curriculum focuses on specialised knowledge of theoretical and practical marine engineering, with an emphasis on skills and competencies required to operate, manage and maintain shipboard machinery.
GME (GRADUATE MARINE ENGINEER) JUNIOR ENGINEER(J.E.)
Engine Cadets are the trainee engineer officers who undergoes and extensive training program which is generally designed in 3 phases (Pre-sea, On Sea & Post Sea training). They are trained to become engineer officers on board merchant ships to take care of main engine, deck machineries, engine machineries, electrical installations, engine room operations & communications on board ship. Eventually an engine cadet becomes chief engineer on board a ship.
Career Graph After Getting Class IV License
Join as 4th Engineer and get promoted to 3rd Engineer. (Salary USD 2000 to 5000 P.M) (18 Months of sea time)
Undergo post sea training for Class 2 and qualify written and oral examination conducted by D.G shipping or equivalent body and obtain Class 2 Licence.
Join as 2nd Engineer as per company recommendation. (Salary USD 6,500 to 9,000 P.M) (18 Months of Sea time)
Undergo post sea training for Class 1 and qualify written and oral examination conducted by D.G shipping or equivalent body and obtain Class 1 Licence.
Join as Chief Engineer as per company recommendation. (Salary USD 9,000 to 15,000 P.M)

Pre Sea Training of 1 Year (Awarded certificate of GME- Graduate Marine Engineering on successful completion).
On board Training of 6-9 months (Cadets will get stipend of USD 400-600 Per Month while training on board).
Post sea training of 2 months. (Awarded COC/Licence from DG Shipping as Class IV engineer on successful completion of exams).
Commencement of Course
In month of March & September every Year.

This course is generally a sponsored program and students are advised to get sponsored first prior going for the training.

ETO (ELECTRO TECHNICAL OFFICER)
Overview
Electrical officers trainees are generally a B.Tech EE/ECE candidates who undergoes a short 4 months training conducted by very few institutes in India. This program is specially designed in such a way that the candidates get familiarised with the onboard electrical equipments and machineries and should be able to do the maintenance onboard. This is comprises of 2 phases (Pre sea & On board training).
Career Graph After Obtaining ETO License
Join as Assistant Electrical Officer (Salary USD 1200 to 1500 P.M) (12-18 Months of Sea time)
Get promoted to Electrical Officer onboard (Salary USD 2500 – 3500 P.M)
Get promoted to Senior Electrical Officer onboard (Salary USD 4000 – 5000 P.M)

Obtain COC/Licence from DG Shipping as E.T.O on successful completion required courses and exams

In month of January & July every Year.
